Fall Wardrobe Essentials

IS FALL YOUR FAVORITE SEASON FOR FASHION?

It’s never an overly exciting time for me personally, when Summer comes to a screeching halt and the temperature begins to fall. What makes it an even more challenging season FOR ME, is when the temperature imitates an unpredictable rollercoaster ride. Every year I try to force myself to find fashionable & fun Fall fashion pieces to incorporate into my wardrobe, in the attempts of not falling into a hum drum style rut. I haven’t always been successful. When it’s really cold, it’s all about survival for me! Mostly resembling a walking comforter. LOL… 😉  Over the years I’ve had my Fall and Winter go-to uniform. My uniform includes skinny jeans, boots, sweaters and huge coats. Though that combo can be amazing with great pieces, when on repeat, it can become a very boring and repetitive look. It can quickly sucks the excitement and/or motivation out of being a fashionable Fall dresser. This year I put my foot down with myself and it’s actually been fun so far. I’ve come across a couple great Fall Finds so far, and of course wanted to share. Hey, I may not be the only one struggling during the Fall and Winter months. 😉

An absolutely fantastic Fall essential, is faux leather pants or leggings. It is so versatile, comfy, warm and layerable, especially in these ever changing Fall temperatures. It can be easily dressed up or down. They can also be seamlessly paired with pumps, boots, booties, sneakers, dresses, trench coats, blazers, bomber jackets, skirts, shirts and sweaters.  Sounds like a win win to me! OH! Let me not forget to mention how AH-MAZE-BALLS they make your legs look too! Hello… will take two please. 😉

Colors and textures are great to incorporate into Fall. Not just the typical and predictable hues and textures of the season, but shake things up and go for the unexpected. Remember no rules apply here! 😉 Fur, sequin, glitter, leather, reds, cobalt blues, pinks, whites and dark wine shades are a few ideas to start with. This reversible faux fur, satin camouflage bomber jacket is so vibrant and fun. This is a piece that can be dressed up or down as well, and can be worn with just about anything and still fit in. This is definitely a staple and statement piece. Dare yourself and go for it! 😉

TIMELESS STYLE and PRICELESS MOMENTS WITH LONDON

HOW OLD ARE VINTAGE CLOTHES?

WHAT IS CONSIDERED VINTAGE CLOTHES?

Have you ever wondered about or asked any of these questions? Well, I most certainly have. If you haven’t, now you’ll learn something new, just because! heehee 😉  I personally think of great vintage pieces as, Timeless Style.  I use to think ( before asking and seriously looking into it) that clothes would have to be decades and decades old, to be labelled vintage. WELL, not so much or not so old.

Clothes that are at least 20yrs old are considered vintage. That being said, recently when I popped into a few higher end vintage stores in New York, designer pieces that are about 10 years old are now being labelled vintage too. When I saw that, I had to laugh, because my closet has a lot of things in there that are more than 10yrs old, like this dress I’m wearing here in this post! Being the vintage lover that I am, I may have way more vintage clothes in my closet than I even realized! LMBO 🙂

I know, I know! The whole “rule thing” about cleaning out your closet annually and throwing out things that you haven’t worn in a year. I don’t have, do or abide by “fashion rules”, only recommendations 😉 Though I love a good trend, I am more of a timeless dresser vs trendy. It is important to cleanse your wardrobe of the things that don’t fit anymore and things you’ll never wear again. With that in mind, my goal is to have special pieces in my closet that I can love, have and wear for a long time, hence my major love and appreciation for statement vintage clothes. 😉 I search all over for those, “MUST HAVE” pieces and I love great deals. I keep my eyes open in Thrift Stores, Goodwill, Estate Sales, Resale Stores and of course, specialized vintage store.

Shayzon Tip: Keep in mind, when you visit Vintage Stores, the pricing may be on the higher side, IF they specialize in designer vintage pieces. Specialized vintage stores know the value that these pieces have, and they price accordingly.

One thing that I am so grateful for as a mom, and cherish so much, is that my (not so) little Girly Girl London, has grown to have an appreciation for unique clothes as well! YAY! lol… I didn’t raise her to be “name brand” or a “label conscious” girl. I taught and still teach her to value fabrics, quality, style, uniqueness and price. So in those priceless moments when we’re on our mommy-daughter dates, talking and/or shopping, it’s so awesome to see that, though she is aware of the different labels out there, the things she likes and chooses for herself, isn’t dictated by a label. Her choices are dictated by wether something is worth the price, if she likes it and if it fits her personal style or not.

We had a great day in the city! Right after attending London’s first gallery show, for french illustrator Nicholle Kobi, she is amazing, check out her work. We were starving after, so we immediately went and had lunch at Fritti

Then we did what we love doing A LOT! We popped into an antique store, took some pics, (of course) 😉 and then hit the highway to hurry home. We were beat! 🙂

GOOD TIMES! 😉 xoxo

Holding On To Summer In Stripes With An Awesome Transition Bag!

The Last Weekend Of Summer in Stripes!

With all the talks about Fall, I have to keep reminding myself that it’s no over YET!

I can’t afford to miss out on the last few days of my FAVORITE SEASON, SUMMER, because I’m stressing about the cold ahead! That’s being said! 😉 I’m on a mission to wear as many of my summer loves as possible. I completely forgot about this awesome, blue and white summer stripes, off the shoulder, wide double frill sleeve, amazeballs top I bought weeks ago. That was a  mouth full!  In addition to that, A bag I fell in love with this summer on vacation in NY, went on super sale (SCORE). The long and short of that, lol, it came in the mail a few days ago and we’re hitting the streets today.

This weekend after the dreadful hurricane/storm (Irma) has been so beautiful. Last weekend was rainy, dark and scary at points and we were locked inside for days.  I definitely wanted to get out of the house and I just knew hubby and my munchkins did too. We all got dressed and decided to head to the city. Coincidentally, my mini girly girl, London and I ended up in our white distressed jeans and velvet shoes, which BTW is going to be a big hit for Fall.

Note From The Writer: This cold shoulder top is so comfortable! It actually can be worn as a dress as well, which makes it a win win. You can throw on sneakers or heels with it and either will be stunning! It’s versatile, an easy go to, super cute and comfy.

Psst… it’s perfect for a date, you can eat WHAT EVA YOU WANT! lol… 😉

So now that London has gotten so tall, most mornings she is rumbling through my closet when she’s getting dressed. I can’t believe that we’ve gotten to this place ALREADY! 😉 It feels like she was just in onesies. I love every bit of it though! Even on those days when I have to send her back to the closet because that particular piece she’s chosen, is not an “US or WE” piece. lmbo… #notforsharing  We have similar tastes in most things and very distinct differences in others, so it’s always a treat when we spend time together and when we go shopping. Getting to see her and Arlington evolve into the young lady and young man they’re becoming is so amazing. Sometimes I feel like and do cry and other times I’m busting at the seams, feeling proud and excited about their life paths.

The hilarious part of this time to the city, was seeing both Daddy and big brother Arlington sitting in those strategically placed, comfy chairs that most stores have now a days. lmbo… Even I wanted to sit down! 🙂 London is the energizer bunny! Our little daughter has always been a GIRLY GIRL and all that comes with that. Now that she’s a teenager… her taste has evolved and her love for the stores, style and fashion has been kicked up A MILLION NOTCHES! 🙂 We’re in for it!

The Prince Crew had a ball hanging out and enjoying the last weekend of Summer in the city.

Behind The Scenes – The Making Of The New Shayzon.com Pt.1

Well here we go again!

It’s definitely important to keep things fresh and up to speed in your business as you grow. Hence the need for a new look over on shayzon.com!

I’m so blessed to have an amazing creative team that I have worked with for years. They GET ME and my crazy ideas and they always execute my vision with such excellence. I call them My Michaels. 🙂 Meet Michael-Rene (my hubby and creative partner) and Michael Reese (my photographer).

As I planned the shoot looks and the rundown for the day, my little girl London came to me and asked if I could choose her to be my assistant for this shoot. I thought it was the sweetest thing as I listened to her and as I looked over at her, I realized that she was really serious and also ready to present me with her proposal, which included her fee. lol. 🙂

When I saw how well thought out this was and how much time and thought she put into it, of course I had to say YES!  So, this was my baby girls first job, as my assistant! I have to tell you, she blew me away with how thorough and attentive she naturally was at this job! She paid attention to my hair, my clothes, my makeup and made sure that I was hydrated for the entire shoot AND she made sure everything for the shoot was neat and organized. Her work ethics are quite impressive, especially for a 12yr old.

 I’M SUCH A PROUD MAMMA!!

wp-1481224345102.jpg

wp-1481224423585.jpg

My mind doesn’t stop! I always want to know that what ever I put forth is my best. Whatever my best is at that point and time. 🙂 I had a really great time pulling my looks together to be a true reflection of myself and what CHICified represents. I checked out thrift stores and resale stores during the shopping days and I found this hot pink vintage piece in a small vintage shop in Atlanta and as soon as I saw it I knew it was the winner! I paired it with navy blue suede pumps and Viola, the cover look was born!

In my planning, I wanted to use this perfect opportunity to be the example of RESALE CHIC for the face of the website. A seamless, doable and stunning mix of vintage and labels. I didn’t have to break the bank on clothes for this shoot at all.

This dress was less than $60! YAY!

Now that’s what I’m talking about! 😉

** Tip: Always check the details, construction and hardware on everything when you’re buying any type of resale garments.**

Shoes are Christian Louboutin.

Funny story about these sexy pumps coming up soon on the blog!

Note From The Editor:

It’s important to plan the details for a shoot, down to the time on each look and/or location ahead of time. This is definitely a situation where the saying “Time is Money” truly applies. As the shoot goes along, of course it’s important to go with the flow and energy that’s happening. Some of the unexpected shots can turn out to be the winning shot, trust me!

Reminder: Plan your budget, make a run of day schedule, don’t loose track of time, everyone is on the clock including you. 🙂  Otherwise you’ll blow your budget with overtime costs and who wants that at the end of an amazing shoot. 🙂

THE SHOE THAT GOT AWAY!

A Reality To RESALE SHOPPING!

Keeping it real on being RESALE CHIC:

The joy I felt as I darted towards these GORGEOUS RED SHOES!  I spotted them in the back of the resale store, in the shoe section and it was immediately ELECTRIFYING!! With every step towards them, I hoped that it would be my size. As I got a few steps away, I LITERALLY started praying for them to be my size! How crazy! 🙂

These brand new, red, unique, vibrant, platform sandals from Alice and Olivia sat pretty on the shelf, waiting to be bought by a shoe lover. I so hoped that shoe lover was me, but unfortunately as I tried to FORCE my foot into these size EIGHT beauties, knowing darn well that my feet are a size NINE! The horrible reality set in, I WASN’T the soon to be owner of these red hot beauties! 🙁

As wonderful as resale, vintage and thrift shopping is, this is a reality that goes along with the process and boy does it sting like a bee sometimes! There are those times when you can easily walk away from a Diamond Find and never think of it again, then there are other times when the piece that got away, literally plays over and over in your mind for days. Well, what should I do, you ask?? Just ride it out! lol…  Eventually the feeling of regret or missing out will pass, trust me! I went home and looked them up online and they popped up for about $150. In the resale store, it was an amazing deal for less than $50. It was just one of those days in RESALE CHIC Land BUT I’m NO QUITER!! lol…

Well Honey Bunnies, ONWARD AND UPWARD WE GO! The hunt continues!

muah 🙂

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION w/ A NEW FLAIR!

HOW TO MAKE AN ACHIEVABLE & CHICified KIND OF NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION!

Well it’s that time of year again!!

It’s the time when many ponder, evaluate and make “that list” of all the things to be done differently for the year ahead. Here are some quick tips on how to make an achievable and CHICified kind of New Year’s Resolution.

The good ole… NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION! ‘)

wp-1451355529789.jpg

~ KEEP YOUR LIST REALISTIC, SHORT & SWEET

~ MAKE YOUR GOALS SHORT TERM GOALS! Ex. 3mth INCREMENTS.

~ REWARD YOURSELF ALONG THE WAY

~ TREAT YOUR MIND INSTEAD OF PUNISH YOUR MIND

~ DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP!

~ CALL IT A TREAT DAY, NOT A CHEAT DAY

~ WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS & KEEP IT ACCESSIBLE

CHOOSE A POSITIVE MINDED CONFIDANT TO SHARE THEM WITH

~ EVERYDAY IS A CLEAN SLATE.

~ IF YOU SLIPPED TODAY, JUST START FRESH TOMORROW

~ REMEMBER, YOU’RE AN AMAZING AND CHICified PERSON WITH OR WITHOUT A NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION LIST! 😉

wp-1451397892041.jpg

Note from the Editor:

Typically the things added to a list are things that everyone is hoping will become a habit. Be mindful and remember, new goals should be realistic and practical to your schedules, physical & financial capabilities and most importantly, your lifestyle.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE CHICified FAMILY!!

wp-1451403601218.jpg

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE VERSATILE T-SHIRT!!

LET’S TALK TEE!!

For most, when we hear about a “TEE” we immediately think casual. Right?

wpid-img_20150829_200143.jpg

Well, I’ve developed an entirely different outlook along with a great appreciation for the good-ole “TEE.”

I now call it MY versatili-TEE! 😉

wpid-6b69fcb73d6d8a7ea389f8e9f1a515aa.jpg

A “t-shirt,” as the majority calls it, is a fashion piece that I consider a must-have for everyones closet. The versatility and effortless qualities, makes it an intelligent wardrobe purchase.

Let’s look at the pro’s:

red-blazer-black-tank-red-dress-pants-black-heeled-sandals-large-8474

~ They can be worn with a suit, skirt, jeans, slacks, shorts, under a blazer, a tunic, a dress, etc…

~ The colors are limitless.

~ They look great with every type of accessory. It all depends on the look your going for.

~ The quality options are huge.

~ The price point can be from as low as a few bucks into the hundreds.

~ It’s a fashion option that anyone can have, regardless of your budget! (Now that makes it CHICified!).

SHAYZON TIP:

When selecting a “TEE” always, always check for the quality of the fabric. The quality can make or brake the final look.

Here are a few things I call the “quick check”:

~ When you pull on both sides of the shirt, does it leave an indentation where your finger are?

If so… it’s a No No.

~ Does the fabric look like it will become dull and fuzzy after a few washes?

If so… it’s a No No.

blazer-crew-neck-t-shirt-jeans-pumps-clutch-belt-necklace-large-4949

~ If the fabric is finely ribbed but doesn’t have strong elasticity to the shirt itself.

It’s a No No.

Pairing a “TEE” with something dressy, is a CHICified fashion move. It adds personality and creates a balance to your ensemble.

A “TEE” makes an outfit not too dressy, not too casual, but simply effortless.

PRETTY IN PARIS * DAY 2

The Travelers Diary

INSIDE PARIS WITH SHAYZON

DAY 2:

As morning breaks and the sunlight begins to creep in through the drapes, I feel as soft tap on my shoulder, my eyes pop open and it hits me… IT’S MY FIRST MORNING WAKING UP IN PARIS! Wow, I have dreamt of this very moment for so long. I immediately spring from the bed and run over to the french doors to say a prayer of thanks and to take in the sweet morning air.

wpid-img_20150724_083013.jpg

Today will be a day of exploration. Getting out to as many other areas as possible in Paris is the goal. 😉  It was very tempting to prebook tours and excursions, but after alot of thought and knowing our personalities, the freedom of going where ever we choose at our own pace, seems alot more enticing.  First things first, at this moment there’s a rumbling within me that more than likely can only be satisfied with some hot tea, baked goods and an egg white omelet. Lol… I’m a happy foodie! 😉

SHAYZON’s TRAVEL TIP: The hotel site is a great source for places to eat & visit and for exciting things happening around the city. Not to mention the two great magazines (WHERE & PARIS) in the room. Personally mapping out each day based on research and input from the incredibly helpful and funny concierge is working out really well.

20150712_132257

This morning we’re venturing a bit outside of Paris to one of their largest markets called Marche’ de Saint-Denis. The market is filled with a plethora of vendors. There are rows of fruits, herbs, vegetables and seafood, topped off with laughter and a myriad of beautiful languages.   20150712_132605

20150712_132550

One of the key recommendations from our concierge Antoine, “Always be mindful of crowded spaces, my pockets and my purse.” NOTE TAKEN! 😉

20150712_132953

20150712_132905

In the midst of walking through the crowd, the laughter of two little girls is piercing through and as we continue to shuffle through, the crowd breaks and there they were, just as happy as ever. One thing I love about laughter, it has no language barrier.

20150712_143304

This is such a colorful and rich experience. So much to see but not enough time to see it all. We will definitely have to come again. This marche’ has everything you can think of and so much more.

20150712_134002  Well the adventure continues with a trip on the subway and lets not forget a quick photo of hubby and yours truly. lol.. 😉

20150712_11382120150712_122058

SHAYZON’s TRAVEL TIP: It’s really convenient to get cash/euro from the ATM machines, but I recommend speaking with your bank prior to traveling to let them know where you’ll be and the dates that you’ll be there. Most importantly, ask your rep if there will be any bank fees for card usage or service fees from the places charging your card while you’re away. This helps to prevent your charges being denied in a country where you may not be able to quickly contact your bank and also preventing a huge shock of bank charges for every transaction when you return home.

20150712_120201

20150712_14454520150712_144048

Traveling back into the city from Saint-Denis is another excellent opportunity to capture more of the architectural beauty that laces Paris. (psst…did you notice the lady on the balcony?) 😉

20150712_114052

Back in Paris and it’s time for lunch and the second half of the day.

I think I belong here. 😉

AMAZING DIY/DIM DINNER PARTY CENTER PIECES

ARE CENTER PIECES AT A DINNER PARTY A MUST HAVE??

wpid-img_20150615_121552.jpg

Party planning can be quite a task sometimes. Ok, let’s keep it honest, it’s quite a task every time! lol… 😉

What we’ve discovered at CHICified through trial and error, is the importance of simplifying the planning process into specific steps.

The two MAJOR must haves:wpid-screenshot_2015-06-26-09-27-14.png

1. Order Of Operation List

2. To Do List

TIP: TO DO LIST apps are awesome! You don’t have to worry about losing a piece of paper. Just don’t lose your phone! lol… 😉

DIMDo It Myself (Found in the CHICified Dictionary)

Today we’re focusing on an area of the To Do List that has people a bit uncertain.  THE CENTER PIECE.

The importance of a center piece on a dinner party table (buffet or sit down) is a very important decision to your event and most certainly a personal choice.

It all comes down to the ambiance you are creating and your personal taste and style.

TIP: Shayzon loves having a center piece on her table when entertaining,  but she doesn’t believe that it always has to be with flowers.

There is no right or wrong decision about having a center piece. If you choose to have one, it can definitely be visually appealing and also a great conversation piece.

wpid-img_20150619_031726.jpg

Going to a florist or ordering custom made arrangements is an awesome option if time allows and you’re financially able to.  A DIY/DIM approach is also fantastic and a very CHICified way to go. Not only does it become your signature creation like the ones created by Shayzon in these pictures, but it’s fun, personalized and very cost effective.

Shayzon (CHICified‘s Editor-in-Chief) shared these pictures of the center pieces from her Premier Party for her new show Mother Funder on Bravo.  She worked with flowers from the local supermarket and a vase shaped like a purse made from moss that she found at a flower wholesale warehouse.

These beautiful center pieces most certainly became a conversation piece at this dinner party. 😉
