GIRL TIME: MOMMY DAUGHTER DATE

Our Special Time Together Is The Most Expensive Gift I Can Give My Daughter, London

The Christmas holiday break from school started on Friday, just a couple days before Christmas Day, which fell on a MONDAY! (it def. felt a little odd). Saturday morning London told me, while we were hanging out in the kitchen, that she wasn’t really feeling the holiday spirit like she usually does. As momma, that made my heart sink a bit. I immediately felt myself go into “FIX IT” mode. LOL… Moms you know that feeling! ๐Ÿ™‚ With midterm exams leading right up to the holiday break this time, I totally got where she was coming from. The break usually gives the kids a few days or a week leading up to the actual Christmas Day. Most evenings were spent inside studying, instead of being out and about seeing the lights, shopping and feeling the holiday energy together as a family.

One quick switcharoo that I decided to quickly do after our talk, was to wrap the gifts and put them under the tree a couple days earlier than our tradition, which is while they’re sleeping the night before Christmas. We wrapped SOME gifts together and she tried to sneak a peek on the others. Her job with her older brother Arlington, was to crank up the reggae Christmas music while they organized the gifts under the tree. I did begin to see the holidays spirit on their faces which was awesome!

Another thing I realized that was missing from the holidays for her, was the one-on-one time that we usually spend together leading up to the big day – Jesus’ Birthday Celebration Dinner. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Even though family was in town visiting, I knew this was time together that I wasn’t going to compromise or skip with London. So I started planning our mommy daughter date right away. Hence our awesome Mani Pedi Day at Sugarcoat Nail and Beauty Bar

Not only did we need that time together, I honestly needed that time for rejuvenation as well. After a full house of 30 guests over on Christmas, all of the dining decor, cooking and baking that goes into that, which starts days before AND my SWOLLEN ACHING FEET the next day… I was all in for that sugar scrub massage. LOL… ALL IN!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I asked Leslie who did my pedi to give me all she had, while she was doing my massage. We both cracked up because she knew exactly what I meant.

I didn’t want us to go to just a regular nail salon, especially since we haven’t visited one in years. YUP years, around 3 yrs to be exact. I’ve been doing London’s and my own nails and actually enjoying that as my me-time or mommy and me time. I wanted a salon that didn’t feel like an assembly line of feet. LMBO… I hoped for somewhere cute and intimate for us to hang out together and that’s exactly what Sugarcoat is. It’s about 45mins from home and was completely worth the drive. It’s definitely going to be my little get away treat spot. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Happiest New Year Everyone!!

DECORATING THE JAMAICAN CHRISTMAS TREE FOR HARTSFIELD JACKSON INT’L – GLOBAL WINTER WONDERLAND ’17

Designing & Decorating The Jamaican Christmas Tree

One of the most exciting days and projects of my career!! This was such an honor!๐ŸŽˆ

I was asked and contracted to design and decorate the Christmas tree representing ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Jamaica, on behalf of the Diplomat of Jamaica, for Jamaica (๐Ÿ˜Š) by the Jamaican Tourist Board and Director of International Affairs.

The Jamaican Christmas Tree is displayed inย Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson Airport in the International Terminal, Concourse F.ย Along with 11 other trees,ย each representing a different country.ย ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿพ

The official Winter Wonderland Tree Lighting Ceremony for all the trees, including the American tree, took place on Nov. 29th. This annual tradition was spearheaded by Alrene Barr, Head of International Affairs, three years ago. This celebration is now a greatly anticipated holiday festivity in the International Airport. Each year Consulates representing the 12 countries and trees are in attendance for the grand lighting, adding their cultural ornament to the American tree.

The entire process was such a joy!! I made photo ornaments, with outstanding and recognizable images from Jamaica’s culture and community, the gifts ( Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff vinyl record sleeves) under the tree, the custom made ribbons, the gown and head piece for the tree topper doll, which represents our highly revered Jamaican culture. These fabrics and colors are worn with great pride. Every detail, down to the strategically placed flags on the dolls gown, was done with loads of pride and love.

SIDE NOTE: I was so focused, I didn’t even realize that I worked the stitches right out from my shirt. lmbo… ๐Ÿ™‚

If you’re traveling for the holidays, keep an eye out, you can’t miss it! It will be there until early January. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Let me know if you see it and take pics!๐Ÿ˜˜

TIMELESS STYLE and PRICELESS MOMENTS WITH LONDON

HOW OLD ARE VINTAGE CLOTHES?

WHAT IS CONSIDERED VINTAGE CLOTHES?

Have you ever wondered about or asked any of these questions? Well, I most certainly have. If you haven’t, now you’ll learn something new, just because! heehee ๐Ÿ˜‰ ย I personally think of great vintage pieces as,ย Timeless Style. ย I use to think ( before asking and seriously looking into it) that clothes would have to be decades and decades old, to be labelledย vintage. WELL, not so much or not so old.

Clothes that are at least 20yrs old are considered vintage. That being said, recently when I popped into a few higher end vintage stores in New York, designer pieces that are about 10 years old are now being labelled vintage too. When I saw that, I had to laugh, because my closet has a lot of things in there that are more than 10yrs old, like this dress I’m wearing here in this post! Being the vintage lover that I am, I may have way more vintage clothes in my closet than I even realized! LMBO ๐Ÿ™‚

I know, I know! The whole “rule thing” about cleaning out your closet annually and throwing out things that you haven’t worn in a year. I don’t have, do or abide by “fashion rules”, only recommendations ๐Ÿ˜‰ Though I love a good trend, I am more of a timeless dresser vs trendy. It is important to cleanse your wardrobe of the things that don’t fit anymore and things you’ll never wear again. With that in mind, my goal is to have special pieces in my closet that I can love, have and wear for a long time, hence my major love and appreciation for statement vintage clothes. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I search all over for those, “MUST HAVE” pieces and I love great deals. I keep my eyes open in Thrift Stores, Goodwill, Estate Sales, Resale Stores and of course, specialized vintage store.

Shayzon Tip: Keep in mind, when you visit Vintage Stores, the pricing may be on the higher side, IF they specialize in designer vintage pieces. Specialized vintage stores know the value that these pieces have, and they price accordingly.

One thing that I am so grateful for as a mom, and cherish so much, is that my (not so) little Girly Girl London, has grown to have an appreciation for unique clothes as well! YAY! lol… I didn’t raise her to be “name brand” or a “label conscious” girl. I taught and still teach her to value fabrics, quality, style, uniqueness and price. So in those priceless moments when we’re on our mommy-daughter dates, talking and/or shopping, it’s so awesome to see that, though she is aware of the different labels out there, the things she likes and chooses for herself, isn’t dictated by a label. Her choices are dictated by wether something is worth the price, if she likes it and if it fits her personal style or not.

We had a great day in the city! Right after attending London’s first gallery show, for french illustrator Nicholle Kobi, she is amazing, check out her work. We were starving after, so we immediately went and had lunch atย Fritti ย

Then we did what we love doing A LOT! We popped into an antique store, took some pics, (of course) ๐Ÿ˜‰ and then hit the highway to hurry home. We were beat! ๐Ÿ™‚

GOOD TIMES! ๐Ÿ˜‰ย xoxo

Holding On To Summer In Stripes With An Awesome Transition Bag!

The Last Weekend Of Summer in Stripes!

With all the talks about Fall, I have to keep reminding myself that it’s no over YET!

I can’t afford to miss out on the last few days of my FAVORITE SEASON, SUMMER, because I’m stressing about the cold ahead! That’s being said! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m on a mission to wear as many of my summer loves as possible. I completely forgot about this awesome, blue and white summer stripes, off the shoulder, wide double frill sleeve, amazeballs top I bought weeks ago. That was a ย mouth full! ย In addition to that, A bag I fell in love with this summer on vacation in NY, went on super sale (SCORE). The long and short of that, lol, it came in the mail a few days ago and we’re hitting the streets today.

This weekend after the dreadful hurricane/storm (Irma) has been so beautiful. Last weekend was rainy, dark and scary at points and we were locked inside for days. ย I definitely wanted to get out of the house and I just knew hubby and my munchkins did too. We all got dressed and decided to head to the city. Coincidentally, my mini girly girl, London and I ended up in our white distressed jeans and velvet shoes, which BTW is going to be a big hit for Fall.

Note From The Writer: This coldย shoulder top is so comfortable! It actually can be worn as a dress as well, which makes it a win win. You can throw on sneakers or heels with it and either will be stunning! It’s versatile, an easy go to, super cute and comfy.

Psst… it’s perfect for a date, you can eat WHAT EVA YOU WANT! lol… ๐Ÿ˜‰

So now that London has gotten so tall, most mornings she is rumbling through my closet when she’s getting dressed. I can’t believe that we’ve gotten to this place ALREADY! ๐Ÿ˜‰ It feels like she was just in onesies. I love every bit of it though! Even on those days when I have to send her back to the closet because that particular piece she’s chosen, is not an “US or WE” piece. lmbo… #notforsharing ย We have similar tastes in most things and very distinct differences in others, so it’s always a treat when we spend time together and when we go shopping. Getting to see her and Arlington evolve into the young lady and young man they’re becoming is so amazing. Sometimes I feel like and do cry and other times I’m busting at the seams, feeling proud and excited about their life paths.

The hilarious part of this time to the city, was seeing both Daddy and big brother Arlington sitting in those strategically placed, comfy chairs that most stores have now a days. lmbo… Even I wanted to sit down! ๐Ÿ™‚ London is the energizer bunny! Our little daughter has always been a GIRLY GIRL and all that comes with that. Now that she’s a teenager… her taste has evolved and her love for the stores, style and fashion has been kicked up A MILLION NOTCHES! ๐Ÿ™‚ We’re in for it!

The Prince Crew had a ball hanging out and enjoying the last weekend of Summer in the city.ย
